Bodies

Are we just bodies or do we have them?
As we punish ourselves for having these scarred vessels
By eating too little or too much
We listen to words that make very little sense
Calories, diet pills, tigh gaps
Too thin, too fat, too pale
Too dark, stretch marks, cellulite
Are we just bodies or do we have them?
As we seem unable to stop the calculator in our heads
Hands wanting to smash the mirror
Searching for another body to provide satisfaction
Through touch, we try to fill our hearts
Not the body-heart our metaphorical ones
Are we just bodies or do we have them?
As we get so tired and so hurt
By an image and a number on a scale
As we get from the pills to the new doctor to the new diet
As we are taught everyday that we are not enough
